I absolutely adored how this book took familiar fantasy elements — a lost kingdom, a stolen crown, a prince and a warrior heroine — and made them feel fresh and exciting. The slow burn romance between the heroine and the prince was a highlight, but what really impressed me was the way the heroine’s growth was portrayed. She starts as someone uncertain of her role, and by the end, she’s a force to be reckoned with. The dark magic and political intrigue surrounding the King and his witch advisor make this book an irresistible page-turner. One of the best fantasy novels I’ve read this year!
